Distance Learning

Remote Learning is available to those enrolled in Institute programming who are not taking classes in person.

For students who live outside the Chicago metropolitan area and around the globe, the Remote Learning option makes psychoanalytic and psychotherapy education accessible. With more than 5 years of experience successfully teaching students around the world from Chicago-based classrooms, the Institute is a leader in applying online technology to psychoanalytic distance learning.

Remote learners are integrated into the classroom with on-site students rather than attending a separate program. All Institute classrooms are equipped with video conferencing technology to allow distance learners to participate fully in discussions. This provides a unique opportunity for cross-cultural learning for students and faculty alike. This cross-cultural learning extends from the course content to diversity within the therapeutic encounter as well as within the classroom.

Remote students can arrange for case consultation and training analysis to be provided using distance technology. Many meetings and events are also accessible to remote students.

Remote students are encouraged to visit the Institute and attend class during their training to strengthen interpersonal relationships and to experience on-site learning at the Institute.

Technology Requirements

In order to participate remotely, students are expected to have a computer, tablet or smartphone equipped with a webcam, microphone and speaker and reliable internet access. Although optional, headphones may improve your audio experience. The Institute provides secure Zoom links for each class you are registered for. The Zoom application will need to be downloaded before class.
