Ongoing Struggles and the Search for Resolution
Two Saturday Morning Panels
At one time, psychoanalysis confronted problems that appeared to be more
or less resolvable. Today, however, it faces complex issues that seem
to question rather than accommodate such a viewpoint. Taking this
dilemma as its cue, the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis has created
two Saturday morning panels designed to examine ongoing struggles as
they apply to difficult clinical issues. These issues resist the
concept of resolution and instead represent life-long battles that seem
to challenge and defy our desire for closure.
Panel One:
RELIGION AND PSYCHOTHERAPY:
COLLABORATION OR CONFLICT?
Co-Sponsored with The Center for Religion and Psychotherapy of Chicago
Saturday, February 9, 2008
9:00 am to Noon
This panel will discuss how and why religion moved into the realm of
psychotherapy from a historical point of view. It will also examine two
competing perspectives: the viewpoint that religion and psychotherapy
are two separate and distinct enterprises that should not intermingle,
and the viewpoint that religion and psychotherapy should be, and in many
respects have been, integrated.
Participants:
- Celia Brickman, Ph.D., L.C.P.C.
- Lallene Rector, Ph.D.
- Jeffrey Stern, Ph.D.
- Moderator: Catherine Burris-Schnur, D.Min., L.C.P.C.
Panel Two:
CHRONIC ILLNESS:
MISFORTUNE OR OPPORTUNITY?
Co-Sponsored with The Institute for Clinical Social Work
