Panel 1 - The Body, the Mind, and Bowlby's Theory of Attachment

Saturday, September 30, 2006 - 9:00 am to 12:00 noon
This panel will explore some central issues regarding attachment and development that theorists have grappled with for some time: 1) How a baby moves from an inchoate, body-oriented focus of attention to developing the capacity to find satisfaction during interaction with others; 2) How the baby then expands awareness from the "stable presence" of important others to a complex exploration of the world; and 3) How Bowlby's theory of attachment organizes and transforms the baby's body-regulated focus of attention to an individual with a mind capable of regulation, safe exploration, and symbolization of the world.

Participants:
Molly Romer Witten, Ph.D.
Gilbert M. Foley, Ed.D.
Robert Galatzer-Levy, M.D.
Paul Holinger, M.D.

Panel 2 - Surviving the Holocaust: Its Legacy for the Next Generation

Saturday, February 10, 2007 - 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
Survivors may focus life-long on their unparalleled suffering or on their present and future, without forgetting. Accordingly, the next generation will feel either terribly burdened or inspired - the story of three Ornstein children in their own words.

Participants:
Paul H. Ornstein, M.D.
Anna Ornstein, M.D.
Sharone B. Ornstein, M.D.
Miriam L. Ornstein, M.D.
Rafael D. Ornstein, M.D.

Panel 3 - Treating Infidelity: Management or Cure?

Saturday, May 19, 2007 - 9:00 am to 12:00 noon
This panel will review and discuss a range of approaches to the problem of infidelity. From the hope for its eradication to the recognition of its lasting impact, this symptomatic behavior seems to demand a study of its own.

Participants:
Jeffrey Stern, Ph.D.
Carla Leone, Ph.D.
Jeffrey D. Roth, M.D.
Constance Goldberg, M.S.
